Talking Exhaust questions

I am looking to put a new exhaust system on my 94 4.0 long bed single cab ranger. Right now it has the factory exhaust, but I would like more sound. But, seeing how I am a college student, I need to spend my money on school and not gas. I dont mind spending $150-$250 on exhaust, but I dont want it to hurt the mg much.. any suggestions? I know the price I want to spend is kinda low, but If I save a little motre I can spend more thanks

your exhust wont really make alot of difference on increasing your mpg, if anything it will help it....what are you wanting to do? just the mufflers or add headers??

are you doing a cat back system, or the whole shebang? Basically, if you put on almost any aftermarket exhaust, you'll probably be making it more efficient. You should be saving a buck or two at the gas pump.

for $150 you can prolly get a Dual-Cat back flowmaster(or whatever muffler you'd like) set up at a muffler shop

Ryan- I would like to replace as much as I can.. my manifolds are pretty rusty and I would 'like' to replace them... possibly headers... I am not sure about the advantages/disadvantages of headers, nor their cost, but I would like good noise for under $300... Dual exhaust isnt necessary but would be cool... just as long as its noisy and helps (not hurts) the mpg... I am open to all suggestions cuz the more you suggest, the more I know, thanks...

unless you are going for performance, i would suggest just replacing the muffler...maybe upgrade to a bit bigger pipe. good flow at a good price.

Dude i wouldn't worry about replaceing your manifold or headers, i mean its not a hotrod so you don't need mass airflow through it, i would go with a single dynomax Super Turbo with dual outlets and go dual out the back or the sides. It Will add alittle more rumble with out making it sound like a woosy engine with nice exhaust. I put those on my 94 Grand Prix and it makes a v6 sounds B.A.D. and Ive notice more pick up and go, you can buy them at any advanced auto parts store for around 40 bucks each. well thats my 2cents......

Headers are always a good idea if you want the best flow and efficiency. Especially when considering fuel mileage.

Headers help even out the pressure as the exhuast leaves the engine. That's why they're long pipes before they combine into one. The idea is to keep the velocity of the exhaust moving. I would recommend upgrading to some nice headers, but it's more than likely out of your price range.

the 87-96 cat converters hold all the sound in... if he only replaced the muffler, it'll sound stock... hell, even running without a muffler on these trucks sounds near stock.
