Today while towing my horse trailer on the highway I heard a groaning noise coming from the motor. At first I thought it way coming from another vehicle it was loud but only lasted a second. I heard this while I was going straight and accelerating. I thought it was a bearing noise but was low pitched rather than a high pitched sound. Later on I heard it when I took my foot off of the fuel pedal. Then again I heard it while traveling at a constant speed of 65 mph. That time it sounded like it was under the truck like the drive shaft. I checked when I got home and everything seemed normal and all of the u-joints were tight. I didnt know if it was the turbo. This is the first time it did it and it is very intermittent. I have a 2003 F-250 Powerstroke with 50,000 miles. Any ideas?
there is a lot of things that can make such a noise, so without the truck in front of me, I can only make a guess. The first thing that comes to mind, there is updated pedestals for the turbo that address "moan- groan" noises. There are procedures involving "unloading" the Y pipe and attachments for similar noises
After reading some of the other threads it seems like it was a turbo noise or Fart that so many people describe. I wonder what the warranty is on a turbo from Ford?
The fart is boost escaping out the intake. If you spool the turbo up ( hence no waste-gate ) and back off the go pedal, it will fart. I doubt if that is your problem just driving down the road on cruise.
