and ideas on how to get out studs on a steering block?? I'm puttin in a lift and have to put in new studs for adding a steering block. Ive tried the lock nut thing but they just marry us and trun off the top together.....is there a tool that was made to pull out studs?? I am dyin here, it is holding me up big time. Thanks -
Your local auto parts store should have a stud removal tool for sale. The tool is not very expensive and should work fine. This is provided the studs are threaded in and not pressed in.
I went to AutoZone today because of their "rent a tool" or "loan a tool" service.......they did not have or even know what a stud puller was..... Do you know of anywhere specifically I can get one? What does it look like and how does it function? I am in a tight space....trying to remove the three studs that connect the steering to the axle. I am trying to put in new studs for the steering block that I have to put in for a lift kit to correct the steering....any help is greatly appreciated.
Yes, Sears still sells one (Craftsman). It is a circular looking affair with a knurled cam that backs into the stud when torque from a breaker bar is applied. Lots of heat on the stud beforehand will ease removal and prevent snapping the stud. Sometimes a slight tightening motion before trying to unscrew the stud will help.
