Good luck with this forum. It is a touchy subject around here. Personally i used amsoil in my 7.3l and loved it. I have been taking my new 6.0 to the dealerhship for oil changes until i decide what oil to use. Do a search you will find alot.
My dad ran Amsoil in his 7.3 and it seemed to run through it real quick, so he went back to Delo. I have a new 6.0 and will be running Amsoil in it pretty soon here, I am curious to hear input on it as well.
Ran it in my 01 7.3 and in my 6.0 . Truck likes it so I like it. I don't go over the 7.5k on changes. May be costing more but seems to be worth it in my book. I'm sure Bob will be here soon to tell ya the sky will fall if you use Amsoil.
I've run it in my old '92 7.3 and I still have it in my '97 Lincoln Mark VIII, but because of the cost, I'm going back to Mobil 1. It ran fine, but so did the Mobile 1 in all my other vehicles I've had. They say it's at least as cost effective when you run it as long as they say, but I just can't get used to only changing a filter, add a quart, then next interval chage oil and filter. It looks clean at 5000 miles, but it just don't seem right....scares me. I guess if I subscribed to a analysis program and they tested and said it's okay, I'd do it, but hell, why not just change the dang oil and be done with it?
One thing that worries me is that if I exceed the Ford factory recommeded oil change mileage/frequency because the oil is still good, I might nullify the warranty

In addition to your concern with OCI, most of Amsoil's oil products ARE NOT
API certified, a requirement of all us vehicle manufacturer's. Matter of fact,
if you read this quote from their website, Amsoil recommends their few oils
that are API certified, if you are concerned about your warranty:
Q: AMSOIL will be using a different formula for its XL-7500 Motor Oils. Why did AMSOIL change the formula?
A: Our XL-7500 oils are the oils of choice in the retail oil change market, and primarily because of warranty concerns the customers in this market require API-certified oils. In order to obtain API SL/ILSAC GF-3 certification and still remain cost-competitive with the other oils sold at retail oil change outlets, we had to change to Group III basestocks. To obtain API certification with our top tier basestocks would have priced our Dealers out of the market.
But, why pay an inflated price for their products (due to the MLM cost structure) when there are many other oils that are API certified, and
cost much less!!
I have been running Amsoil in everything I own for 15 years, including weedeaters, lawnmowers, snowmobiles, ATVs, Harleys, streetbikes, race cars, muscle cars, imports, and of course Diesels. Never had any problems at all, has always worked flawless.
Had a talk with my technician the other day and he has a problem with a couple of his customers using AMSOIL.......they are trying to stretch oil changes beyond 10 thousand miles. The oil sheared and caused problems. Once the oil was changed any problem disappeared.
Where is the idea coming from to use this oil that long?
We know for a fact that Amsoil uses questionable marketing (call it outright lying if you please), they're an MLM company, they recommend things that Ford specifically disallows (running 10K+ on a single oil change), and most of their oil is not API certified. Regardless of whether or not you like Amsoil, the above facts can't be logically disputed or disproved. Why would you want to do business with a company like that?
Go with Mobil 1... or Rotella T... or the Delo synthetic... all great oils that will hold up well in your 6.0. And change the oil as Ford recommends... I do mine every 5K.

Have you ever figured how much money you would have saved if you used another brand of oil for 15 years?

It's coming from Amsoil's BS!!! Check out their website here on one of their oils. In this case, it's supposed to last 25,000 MILES! Also notice how they stick API SL, CF & CI+4 in the description of the oil to deceive you to think this oil is API certified, and this oil IS NOT API certified!!
