I have a DP Tuner chip - and, yes, I DEFINITELY have turbo surge. I asked Jody Tipton about Wicked Wheel vs ATS housing. He said the WW helps a lot - and gives a very nice turbo whistle. But the ATS housing is better for controlling surge. The ported shroud apparently is the key.
I believe the GTP38R also uses a ported shroud. If I had the money, I wouldn't bother with an ATS housing, I'd just get a BB turbo! Now, if my turbo dies a normal death (doesn't explode and destroy the housing) then I'll get a BB turbo and sell the ATS housing.
I have a pretty little ATS housing awaiting installation after tax day. I am very much looking forward to it.
Ah! A weekend installing a few goodies that have been gathering dust in my garage. I'll have to send the wife on a trip to see her mother or something that weekend so I can just enjoy it without the usual interruptions:
"Are you going to work on that thing all day? Wouldn't you rather do something fun?"
There is no adequate response. Just a smile, and keep twisting wrenches.
