Tuners

I want to buy a tuner for my 7.3 litre powerstroke diesel and im leaning towards hypertech, does anyone have any feedback on it or others that might be good?

I'd say skip the Hypertech, and get... pretty much anything else!! I would recommend Jody Tipton!!

Ditto the comments. Skip the tuner and go for a chip. DP Tuner flip chip from Jody Tipton is the only way to go. Several of us here have already wasted our money on a tuner just to later replace them with a DP chip, including myself. My only regret is that I ever bought a tuner over a chip in the first place.

Ok- Why not a tuner? Help me out.

Why not a tuner? Help me out here. What is the advantage of the chip over the tuner? I run a Super Chips micro tuner now, but that can go on E-bay!

More power, lower EGTs, less smoke, better shift programming, and the ability to have the tunes burned specifically for your truck with your mods.

I Have Run A Tuner As Well ( S C M T ) I Still Keep It For Code Reading.
Can Tell You This.

Like Many Many Others On This Site.... Once You Try A Chip Instead Of A Tuner. Hands Down ..... You'll Never Want To Go Back To The Tuner.

Yes, There Is That Much Difference. Period.

I have to disagree a bit here. I have an SCT Excal II tuner from Jody. Same exact tunes he puts on a chip. I use the 60hp tow program all the time because that fits my needs for towing and city driving the best. I don't see any need for a flip chip what so ever unless you just want to play. If I decide I want a program I don't have Jody can email it to me and in about 5 minutes I'm up and running on the new tune. Plus, with the SCT I have a great code reader and a data-logger.

It's all personal preference.

He's right. Treat your truck like delicate china until it warms up. Then ask it to work for you.

There are several things I really like about my chip. Believe it or not, all the extra power isn't on top of the list. One of the best features - to echo mtgrzlyman and Kwik - is that I can warm it up on the stock setting, THEN switch it over to a performance tune.

As far as Jody's tunes on an SCT Excal from Jody - you are still getting proper tunes designed for YOUR PCM - unlike generic tuners that are supposed to work across a broad spectrum of PCMs.

<i><b>"Will work on any 7.3 from 99 to 03"</i> - BEWARE -</b> there are a lot of PCM differences during those years and no one tune works well for all. Jody does a great job with most of them.

I like to play. Switching on the fly was one of the big things that led me to a chip.
