I've been searching but didn't find the answer to my question. What exactly is the CCV and its purpose? I know its a mod but what are the benefits for it?
This in itself is not a modification, but a system implemented on the engine to introduce crankcase vapors (blowby) into the combustion chamber.
The inherent problem herein lies with the oil residue that ends up coating the intake tract, intercooler, and intercooler tubes.
The modification for this system is to re-route the crankcase vapors either into the exhaust stream or simply route them under the vehicle.
I have yet to do this modification due to the likelyhood of the vent hose plugging and causing excess crankcase pressure (leaks ensue). If you're worried about oil in your intercooler or blowing off intercooler hoses due to oil intrusion, go for it. Search in the 99-03 Powerstroke forums for info on the "CCV mod".
