what/where do I need to look for parts which will let me mount my spare tire under the truck bed, or on the front grill?
I have a 71 F250 camper special, and I don't want the spare wheel taking up space in the box.
You could attach (2) 3" x 1/8 steel channels across your frame and bolt them there with 1/2" grade 5 bolts. Then run 4" x 1/4 flat bar between the channels. Then have (2) 1/2x20 bolts (bolt, lock washer, flat bar, flat washer, lock washer, nut, nut) sticking down through that to attach the spare tire. Lift the tire up to the bolts with a jack and piece of 4x4. Then secure it with regular wheel lugnuts. Mark the flatbar so the wheel holes will line up with the bolts and test fit that before securing to the 3" channel.
Why not just rip a spare tire mount out of another truck that had one behind the differential?
For mine, I am going to put a removable expanding solid steel bar across the bed right behind the cab, halfway up, and weld a hunk of 1" all-thread to the very center, pointing straight toward the back of the truck, and mount the tire to that, so it wont take up alot of space and I can still put a topper on it. The tire will basicall sit flush against the back of the bed up against the cab.I HATE trying to lower a nasty, wet, dirty, stupid tire from under the truck...

I have a factory (I believe) mount like you describe, with the spare held upright behind the left fender well... let me know if you want a pic. In fact, let me know if you want it, I'm putting mine under the frame... I don't get enough flats to worry about having to crawl under the truck very often, and a tarp behind the seat solves the problem.
