After searching I'm wondering if my problem is the CPS. It doesn't do it all the time and seems to only do it after I stop or idel for a while. When I accelerate it sputters and I can feel the power loss. After getting on it it seems to go away and won't do it again for a while. What do you all think? CPS?? Or maybe the ICP sensor. Thanks.
I have a '96 PSD and mine does the same thing. It only does it when I accelerate. I can't figure out what the problem is. The engine just bogs down and I can feel the power loss, then it recovers after a couple seconds and takes off.
the ipr is the injection pressure regulator. it has somethin to do with the injectors. it either regulates fuel pressure or oil pressure to the injectors. not really sure. give me a hand F350
IPR regulates the oil pressure to the injectors. Also check the following: fuel pressure at the schrader? (spl) valve on the Fuel Pressure Regulator, it should be 40-60 psi. If it is low it could be: stuck FPR valve seat, worn out fuel pump, clogged pickup screen in the tank, gunk in the bottom of the fuel filter housing, clogged FPR screen. Is your fuel filter clean? Does it bog down when you accelerate while parked or only while driving?
Do you have Auto Zone near you? If you do they may check your codes if any. They do in Lynchburg, VA, anyway. But after you check the IPR and check your fuel pressure, if you have the tools, i.e. pressure gauge, and if you are still having that same problem. Have your system checked for codes. I have seen the CPS, cam position sensor, cause a hesitation from a idle and cause a lag when you punch the pedal and not turn the light on. Most times it will cause a check engine light but with OBDII if it does not occur long enough or enough times it will not set the lamp on but it will store the code. You may not have noticed the lamp if it came on momentarily and went out. You can buy an OBDII code checker from most auto parts places from about $20-200 depending on what info you would like.

dude that's your EBPV (exhaust backpressure valve). closes at certain temp. to help truck warm up. But it does it every time I start my truck from cold. Most guys remove or unhook them.
