I want to get ride of the cats on my truck. can anyone tell me if this is not recommended because of mechanical issues or anything? YES, I am aware of the law but thats not really my concern. I would like to find a y pipe that doesnt have the pre cat or the cat on it. I'm thinkin about leaving the one on there and cutin the big one out. I got some 3' exhaust for it and i would like it to sound really good. If anyone could give me an opinion, or advice that would be great.

Reason: I suck at spelling
A. Hollow the cat out thats in your existing y pipe and go from there. ( airflow may be affected by the "box" (area where cat once existed) but not there now)
B. Get a 85 or 86 302 y pipe from a junkyard that dosent have the cat built in.
c. Put headers on
I would go with the headers. I just put hooker headers on I got from a junkyard. Also put in an H pipe with dual flowmaster 40 series mufflers. They headers were like new when I pulled them. Cant say about perfomance havent driven it yet.
I am currently looking for the same thing. Look into getting a set of Y pipes from an F-250 around the 94 or 95 year. Those don't come with the cat's, but have a flange to bolt a cat up to. I'm going to get one of those pipes, but the flange off the back, and hook duals up to the pipes (If I have room to cut it off and clamp to it.)
