Prospective Buyer (Rant warning)

We've got our tent trailer for sale in the local free ad paper listed for 1200, we bought it for 600. Anyway, a family came and saw it on Sunday. They set an appointment for 3:00, as we store it at my in-laws house. They were late by 20 minutes, and we were about ready to leave. So we stuck around, I was mad and made my wife do the talking. They managed to needle us down to 800, no problem, we'd still make 200 on it. Everything looked like it was going to sell. But the wife (of the family) wanted to bring her mom to look at it, as she was the one with the money. Today was the day. Papers ready with the seller's info, buyers blank, waiting for the money. 11:00 was the time we agreed on. Again, I'm waiting, till almost 11:30, by myself, being entertained by AC DC in my truck. But still, knowing the trailer should sell, I wait, and wait, and wait. They finally show up, I give them their space to go over the thing. They then come out, and they have a question about the zipper on the door. Now, I'm not going to say that they broke it, because it breaks for me too, but I fixed it for them on the spot, only to have them break it again. They hum and haw about it, and they're gonna ask her aunt if she can sew a new zipper into it. They then said they still want it, but if someone calls tonight to buy it then let it go.

Yeah.

Even if no one else calls, and they call back still wanting it, I won't sell it to them. It's not like they can't afford it themselves, without the mother's money. They have a new Kia minivan, and a new Acura 2 door. They even admitted how irresponsible they are with money, buying a trampoline for their kids, them not using it, and then having to sell it losing money on it.

They brought their kids along on Sunday, and the thing that weirded me out was, after my wife sold them on it, I went out to see what was taking so long. The older daughter, maybe 9 or 10, wouldn't stop staring at me, eating a granola bar the whole time. I can understand bringing your kids to see something they might be spending a lot of time using, but come on. Eating and staring is just as bad as talking with your mouth full.

Some car salesmen have no problem walking away from a sale. Maybe I should do the same and take our trailer off the market.

I mean, how rude can people get? I would feel better if they said something like "No, we don't want it because of the zipper", or "We'll take it if you fix the zipper", or "No we don't want it", but to be late for 2 appointments totalling almost an hour, and coming up with some bs like "I'll get back to you a 3rd time" (and possibly be late again). Heck, if I were at work, I could have made 25 bucks. Time is money. They have the attitude of "if they want to sell it so bad, they'll wait." I say, if they want to buy it so bad, show up on time.

Come on, the thing is 30 years old, with original canvas, no leaks, sleeps 6, off the ground, and you want a zipper to work like it was built yesterday? I know 1200 is a lot to ask for it, but it is a sellers market too. If they want something like mine for cheap, there'll be lots of leaks.

Yeah, we'll probably just keep it. Update a couple things like install bigger wheels, add some trailer lights, maybe replace all the zippers in it. Ha.

Screw them.

i ran into these type of people long time ago when trying to sell a car or truck, i am done with it now, forever, i won't ever go through that again, i will either trade it in or sell it to a freind or just keep it. i can't stand these werid poeple out there when selling something.

i really love it when they expect a 30 year old truck to be like new, and its like a surprise to them when its not, selling my 71 chevy was a nitemare, thank goodness a freind of mine came up with the money and bought it(payment plan)

i advertised it how it was ......a mudder!!!!.....dang, poeple came looking at it for their family car, car for their kid, work truck, looking to restore it, everything except what it was advertised for.

As much as I hate it when people say this to me, I gotta say it.

The family might actually have had a situation where they were not able to make it on time. Sometimes things get in the way. As for your situation with the camper, I would keep it on the market, however if they call again, let them know that you need them to be on time as you have other engagements that you need to attend. They should understand that.

I guess we got lucky when we sold our 1972 Palamino back in 1999. Our neighbor's mother wanted it and the sale went very smooth. Good luck with your sale.

I know exactly how you feel. I have a car in my yard not bothering anybody and this one guy has been hounding me for 3 months to sell it to him. Last Sunday he stops by the house again asking about it and practically begging. By now I have decided OK. A price is settled on and he asks if Friday is ok to come pick it up. Sure, he's only been asking every week for over 3 months. I get everything ready and guess what? NO SHOW . If he decides to show up now then I believe the price will go up.

Time is money
It is. if they call back tell them the price is $850.00

however, I think 600 bucks for a 30 yo popup is hiway robery, Maybe yours is in super condition, but I've seen newer (less than 10 yo) pop-ups in that price range

I agree the price for the pop up is a little high. But, the price obviously doesn't bother them since they came to look at it.

In the car business, we call customers like that "strokes". And usually politely brush them out of our way!!!
