I have 99 F350 V10 gas automatic. I have a problem with the transmission. The truck has been slow to go into gear when it was put in drive. It would delay about 2 to 3 seconds. Not bad. Then it started this new thing. When you put it in drive and take off it takes a long time to shift (like it is dragging down) and the front end shutters until it gets up to its desired speed and then it is fine, until you stop and take off again, then it does the same thing. However, when the overdrive light starts flashing, it works like it is suppose to, only when it shifts from 1 to 2 you feel a little bump. When the truck is turned off and cranked again the overdrive light is back on and the problem is back. WHAT THE HECK is going on? I would be grateful for any input.
also I forgot to mention that when you take off the vehicle shutters until it reaches a higher speed, then it levels out. The back up light also do not work.
took my f350 v10 1999 auto transmission to shop today. With out looking at the transmission the repairman said I needed a new transmission. He ran the codes and said that it came up with speed sensor and slippage. I changed the sensor and it did not help. the tranny works good until you get going good and then it will not go over 25 miles per hour. It sounds like the truck is in low. After I told the repairman that I could not afford the $2000.00 tranny he wanted to put in my truck, he called later to say he found another one for $1600.00. He never even looked at the transmission. He said he didn't have time to go into the tranny and he thought I should just get a new one. UHHHH. Does any one still think it is the torque converter? I wonder if he just wanted to take a middle aged lady for her money. Would that cause slipping?
Get a second opinion first ,but the trannys are the weak link in our trucks.
Especially the older trucks.
Has the fluid ever been changed or flushed?
Has the internal filter ever been changed?
Have you chked the level in the tranny.
If the above things have been done, you have a serious problem and need some work on it.

I have a v10. the tranny is fine now, but I had a speed sensor problem. Not sure what the tranny guy did, but I do remember he said the wire harness had been getting fluid into it and had to be replaced. I did so much electrical work for these guys. I bet he worked on it 10 minutes..But I know still the fluid is brown..yuk..he says it is gonna go out soon. I just wonder. Good luck with tranny guys
