Thinking of selling my '05 lariat, whats it worth?

It's hard to find going prices on these things, ebay is always low, autotrader is hard to sort by trim package, and dealers always lowball.

2005 Lariat 2wd Supercab
All options except heated sets, power rear window and backup sensors.
15,000 miles
MSRP ~$36000

Autotrader seems to show between 25K and 30K, but a lot of those are 4x4s (+4K?). And I'm skeptical on that because I didn't pay much over 30, and that was BEFORE employee pricing.

I figure I won't take too bad a hit on depreciation, since it's still the new body style and in demand.

www.kbb.com, as well as autotrader and ebay are your best bet for figuring out what the value is. You will take a big hit, and the employee pricing is not going to help. Getting a new truck, or moving on to something else?

Not gonna get NEAR what you paid for it or what you expect, especially when people can get a brand new 06 with like 5 miles on it for only a few 1000 more..

What's it worth is a very subjective question... what's it worth to you... or what's it worth to a dealer with 50 new ones and 25 used ones sitting on his lot... or what's it worth to a private party looking to get a good deal on a used truck?

A good starting point is to go on KBB and get the private party price, then put it in Autotrader and any local papers that car buyers frequent. Then plan on dropping about $1000 from that with haggling and nitpicking and whatnot from the potential buyer.

The only thing you have going for you as a seller is that you don't desperately NEED to sell it right away, so you can wait a while for the right buyer with the right offer to come along. But obviously, the longer you wait the less you can expect to get, although you will be paying down the principle at the same time.

New vehicles are not investments, and the BEST you could ever hope for when you are still making payments is to break even, unless you only have like 3 payments left. So you just gotta decide how much you are willing to spend to get out of that truck and into whatever new vehicle you are wanting. I feel your pain, my wife wants a new Lexus IS350, but we still have 28 payments left on her Jeep. I almost cried when we went to see what the Lexus dealer would give us on trade. Needless to say, we will wait until the Jeep is paid off and then have a little equity to work with.

$23,400 max on private party sale. Expect about 2-3000 less on a trade in.

according to kbb.com, trade-in value ranges from $19400 to $20,600. Private party from $22,600 to $24000. Actual selling price should be somewhere between those two numbers. Remember, the first year is the biggest wallop.

Really that low? All the used ads that low are XLTs and cheaper models.
Checked KBB just now, $24K private party. I haven't had any faith in KBB because they're way off on older vettes I've looked up on there. But they seem to have all the options covered on newer stuff.

No way I'd trade in. I don't want anything a dealer will have to offer.

The truck loan is paid off, so that part isn't a problem. One of my friends is upside down on his truck by $15K.

There is zero benefit to me owning a new vehicle. Something more like this will suit me...

problem is, you'cve got a fairly high-priced used unit competing with new ones. Oddly, doesn't seem to affect SD Crew Cabs. In all fairness, the resale 150 is a 4X4 Screw- brings the most % against new sticker price.

Kelley Blue book is what normally everyone goes on. Not knowing exactly what you have here is an estimate.

Private Party Value ( W#hat you may be able to get)

<SMALL>2</SMALL>
<BIG>$22,810</BIG>
Retail Value ( What the dealer will sell for)

<SMALL>3</SMALL> <BIG>$27,780</BIG>
Trade-in Value<SMALL>2</SMALL> <BIG>$19,630</BIG>

Don't be fooled by thoughts of grandeaur. First you have to get a prospect at the location of your vehicle to see and discuss the vehicle. Then you have to agree to a price that is below what other vehicles of like properties are selling for. Relalize, you are competing with Used Car lots that have some form of post-purchase warranty and pre-buy inspection. Plus you are competing with other individual sellers and new models. Set your price to lure in prospects, not self appreciation.

I just sold my nearly new wife's vehicle (not a Ford or pickup) through Cars.com. I set the price that shaved some from my pride, but still left room for the buyer to feel I was selling quality. I got only one call, and he was utimately the buyer. I set my price to compete with the market and lure in the buyer. I did that, and the vehicle sold.

Set your price correctly. It is the price that does the luring, not the vehicle.
