What are the real differences between an 80 - 86 bed and an 87 - 90 bed? I can't find any good beds for my 83 but have found a bunch of 87 - 90s. I would be willing to pay a little extra for a complete bed vs. patching up th old one. It just seems easier but I may be wrong. So, what are the differences?
Only the wheel wells are different. The 87-96 wheel wells flare out while the 80-86 wheel wells dip in. Both bed styles are a direct bolt in for each other though.
Check out the thread on f-150 bedsides and fenders. Theres some good info in there. I have a 1980 Stepside (flareside) and the difference between the 1979 and the 1980 is the squared off fenders that match the cab, made of fiberglass.

Thanks! So, I can replace the bed but how about the fenders? I know the grill and bumper are different but if I can find a good front clip is it a direct bolt on as well?
Besides the wheel-well difference, the back corner of the box is rounded on the 87up and more square on the 80-86. The tailgate and tailgate mounts are also different.
