cigarette lighter power

i was wondering how much power the power plugs in the truck produced? I was wondering if you can take the cigarette lighter cord, splice it and put a 2 prong plug for a wall charger without doing damage to the product. I am guessing that the truck powerpoint plugs do not produce as much as if you were to plug it in at home.

If you're thinking what I think you're thinking it won't work. The lighter socket puts out 12V-DC and is rated ~20 amps max. A home wall outlet puts out ~120V-AC. Nowhere even remotely similar. It's like comparing apples to..........uh...............tennis shoes.

fromme87, I think more information is needed on what you are trying to accomplish.

Fromme87 does not seem to reply so let me add to the question for my own good. I have a 2004 Ford Expy witch has four 12v outlets. We are plannin a trip to Disney World this summer (starting point Montreal). We bought each kids (3) their own DVD player plus daddy (me) is bringing its brand new GPS toy. Will I over load the circuit? Just by adding up the AMPs required for each devices, will it tell me I am ok? Plus we will be towing our new trailer therefore the truck will be charging the trailer's battery as well...

Are you running all these devices from DC inverters, or are they "mobile" versions that plug directly to your DC powerpoints?

Yes, that is the proper way.

Plus we will be towing our new trailer therefore the truck will be charging the trailer's battery as well...
That should be no problem.
