Opinions---Banks Trans Command
Between a decent valve body and the TC lockup and shift point tuning of Jody's chip, I'm quite happy with my auto trans. Or, rather, as happy as I could ever be with an auto trans. It is my first one in 30 years - and I remember now why I hate them so much.
I've had a Banks Trans-Command installed for 175,000 miles (along with the
banks 300hp, 630 ft-lb engine kit). It's never broken the tranny or anything
else. But it's a crude way to speed up the shifts. It's harsh at times, mostly
on the 1-2 shift under light load. Under heavy load I actually like how it
shifts.
But now the converter is dying so it's rebuild time again. This time the Banks
Trans-Command is coming out and I'm having my tranny guy (Culhane in
Lake Elsinore, CA) install a Factory Tech valve body and also using a good
converter (custom triple lock unit from TCS in Lake Havasu, AZ). I guess I'll
ebay the Trans-Command. I'm also wiring up a T/C manual lockup.
I installed the Sonnax kit, very nice-firmed up all the shifts. But I still had that god awful TC lockup (if you want to call it lockup, it was more like sliding into lockup). When I got my DP chip last month, I mentioned to Jody the Sonnax kit, but told him I wanted to do something about the TC lockup. After installing the chip, I am grinning from ear to ear.
More power, and a tranny that shifts like it should-crisp, clean, not sliding from gear to gear, and like they said, it is like a 5 speed now. If I were to do it again, I would probably go with the BTS valve body, but this setup works perfect for me now, and will until my tranny takes a dump.
