Jas88 from your description of the old fluids condition, it sounds as if it looked like my 94 Taurus P/S fluid did, pretty beat up. lol
If the "roughness" isn't cured by the detergent/dispersants in the new fluid, you might consider trying half a can of SeaFoam Trans Tune.
It straghtened out a P/S shudder in my 99 Ranger last fall, after a 40 mile round trip. P/S fluid still looked/s good, bright red & clear, but there must have been some deposits, maybe a little varnish, or sludge, that it's put into suspencion, but not enough to discolor the fluid.
Anyway it'll all come out soon & we'll see how it does without any TransTune.
I don't normally use any kind of additives in my fluids, unless they are specfied by the mfgr, but I've had good luck on the Taurus & Ranger P/S, with brief, limited use of the TransTune.
I'm due for a P/S & Tranny fluid change this spring, so I left the 1/2 can of Trans Tune in there over the winter & will add the other half a few hundred miles before my upcomming spring flush.
Tht's OK. If I reparied vehicles for a living, I would probably choose to work at a Chevy (or better yet Chrysler/Mopar) shop. You go where the work is and we all know Chevy's are more prone to needing repair than Ford's. Right??
