Hello everybody have found a lot of information on the site it all good need help to work out what to do next.I think that I have bent rod or rods was pulling up to a set of lights on the brakes slowing from about 15 mph no acceleration and the engine lost power running on about 3 cyl and sounding like someone was bashing on the block with a big hammer for about 5 seconds and a lot of smoke grey and white and a bit of black, engine returned to normal except for a ticking noise and running a little rough, checked oil, diesel in with it pulled the tappet covers checked all push rods and rollers no damage, without pulling heads what should I check next or what would be the cause to do this running a 4" turbo back exhaust and 60HP edge evolution motor has done about 25000 mls any feedback or help would be appreciated thanks again
My 7.3 has a tick most of the time sounds like a lifter on a gasser.
Don't know if you have the same but i've been told it's an injector.
Low fuel pressure will really make it worst.
Try a new filter.
Keep us posted.
Thanks for that had a new filter 200mls ago no ticking noise until this happened diesel fuel mixed in with oil so something let go to allow the diesel in the sump
Thanks Kwikkordead even though fuel in with oil and that terrible banging sound that sounded like the rod had gone through the side of block the engine has the pmr rods in it. 05 build Australia 7.3 PSD
Injector knock will sound like the engine is going to break in half. It's dumping all the fuel all at once into the combustion chamber and it's burning all at once as well. Hence the huge bang bang bang bang.
I've heard it before on the little VW's that I work on and it sounds like it's going to crack the block or break the crankshaft.
OK update for everyone #5 and #6 cyclinder no compresion so it looks like ill have to pull the engine for a rebuild thanks to everyone for their comments
have them flow tested or just reworked. i would think your almost new 7.3 shouldnt be having these problems with that amount of miles on your injectors but hey anything is possible.
