trying to fix my girlfriends truck. she has a 99 expolrer 4.0 v6. it stalls on start up, mainly on a cold start. when it starts, the idle goes to 1up to @ 1500 RPM then it drops, studders, then stalls. this will happen 2-3 times if yo don't tap the gas pedal. any suggestions? otherwise the truck runs fine. another thing is the windshield wipers go on intermitenly, especially when you use the turn signal. it's actually pretty funny to see when the sun is shining. any help would be great. thanks...
Check the "Links for Important Information" on the front page under "IAC"
You probably have an "Idle Air Controller" problem.
I had the same problem on my 1995 Sport last year and the people here on the forum steered me in the right direction.
An easy fix,,the IAC is the Silver "Thingy" in the top of the engine intake with a 2 wire plug going to it.
Mine was Stalling and would only run if you kept a pressure on the accelerator for a few blocks until it would idle on its own.
Part runs about less than 100 dollars,,make sure you get the correct one for your year and engine as mine was a Letter off and it was wrong(I needed the "A" one)
Hope this part helps,,the windshield wiper thing sounds like a short in the turn signal stalk
