My truck has recently started to stall whenever at a paused position, you can hear the motor trying to stay up with a rough idle then it just stalls. Also happens when you 1st turn it on you have to keep your foot on the gas so it doesnt stall. Im guessing its the fuel pump, but what do yall think it is????
Idle air valve. If she runs with you giving it throttle manually, it aint a fueling problem. If you cant replace it right away, theres probably an idle stop screw on the throttle body you can adjust to your liking. My 96 and every other EFI Ford I've owned had on anyway. Make sure you get it set high enough where running the ac or puttin the trans in gear dont kill it. And back the screw out so it aint touching the throttle once you do replace the IAC valve. I dont even have mine connected right now, I set mine right around 700 RPM in gear withac compressor and air compressor running.

Does this really affect the performance of the vehicle? because i feel like its sluggish and a 351w aint no wimp.. closest thing to a 460. And would a cleaning with Throttle body cleaner help this issue??
Yeah you can try taking the valve off and cleaning it. I tried that a few times on a 4.6L I used to have... it would work for a month or so and then fail again. I got tired of it and set the idle up manually til I picked up a new valve.
As for affecting performance, all that valve does it bypass a small amount of air around the throttle body when the throttle is at idle (as sensed by the PCM) so it shouldn't hurt off-idle performance.
