Did the 68 F100 Ranger come with (or have as an option) the locking tool compartment on the passenger side of the bed, or was that only on the F250 and up? I wonder if I have an F250 bed on my F100..
I'm gonna have to break down and buy a manual that has this kind of info. Anybody know what it would be called and where I can get hold of it?
i ran into a guy this past weekend that had a shortbed styleside bed with the tool box in the side of the box. he has 3 or four more short boxes. i bought a totally rust free short box with tailgate for a 66 that the frame was cut right behind the cab. also bought a 65 3/4 ton with a few whiskey bruises on it but no rust. i mean no rust, the original paint is on the inner fenders and under the cab, firewall, hood etc. the truck was coming cross country from california in west kansas and the motor blew. believe it or not i think this truck has 37k original miles. this guy has a hoard of 15 or 20 custom cabs 65-66 and a few unibodies. many many short and long beds and excellent prices. i saw so much stuff i can't remember all of it, but i am already planning my next trip except this time i'll be taking my gooseneck instead of my car trailer and one ton. i am pumped. jim
when i go back, which will be soon, i will be bringing it home with me. the toolbox is a smaller version of the same box on the full size bed models. i also recall someone a few years ago selling the toolbox for a shortbed on ebay. believe me they really exist, no matter what ford says, but this is the first one i have seen in person. this guy has a major collection of ford truck trinkets. as soon a i get some pics i definitely will send them to you. send me an email. i may go this weekend depending on the weather. tonite they are forecasting a skiff of snow and its already cold. below freezing all day. jim
Yes it's a '65-'66 bed. Notice two hinges instead of three.
The '65-'66 brochures say a toolbox was available for all Stylesides. It was redesigned for the '67-'72 Stylesides, a flush mount instead of a surface mount. That one was only available for the 8' Stylesides according to the brochures.
I have a question; has anybody ever seen a flush mount toolbox on a '67? I can't recall ever seeing one and the brochures make no mention of it until '68.
I think he got some bad info about wheelbases. The only wheel base applicable to that is the 131" if they were only available on the longboxes from 67-72.
