Talking How rare is tool box in bed?

My 69 F-100 Ranger has the tool storage box built into the right side of the bed. Does this make it more rare? I seen somewhere where there was a Camper Special & a Contractor Special. My truck has neither badge. It is a Ranger with exterior/interior molding, AC, PS, PB, AT. I seen one other long bed in a Pick-N-pull parts yard. I seriously thought about removing the bed side for possible future use. It would only cost about $25 plus my time. Does anyone have knowledge about these bed boxes?

Those tool boxes were an option on all F series trucks. I'd have to say they're scarce and probably worth saving. And I believe the Camper Special was an option just on the heavier F250s.

Thanks Mike. If Ford trucks are like mustangs there may be no way knowing how many were made with this option. I know the truck was exclusively used to carry a slide-in camper for the better part of it's life. The orginal owner had two custon 20 gal. fuel tanks made which were fited just forward of the wheel wells. I have yet completely filled the truck up. And now with gas $1.80 plus I know I won't.

$1.80 a gallon!! That's a bargain! Try $2.40 a gallon.

That's what price it was at lunch time today. I'll let you know how much it increses by lunchtime tomorrow. It seams it creaps up daily. I have learned to "feather" the old 390.

24 hrs?!!

Well here, in Yuma, AZ, I saw the price go up in a matter of hours. 2.03 in the morning and then 2.11 before lunch. Now, one month later, it is 2.12!!

I'm going to have to factor in the price of gas when I quote jobs if this keeps up for long. I'm sure other businesses will have to pass the costs on to the customers/consumers as well. There's no way I'll give up my Ford for a smaller econo truck. They just don't have the capacity. Sure, everyone passes me on the freeway. But whether I'm unloaded or hauling 1 1/2 tons, the power is still there.

We had a fella around here who converted his engine to run on used cooking oil If that's the answer I know my Ford will carry enough of it to make it to the west coast. Plus I could always stop break out the ole' fish cooker and do a little frying .

Doing the conversion to US coin and measure, looks like we're paying about four bucks a gallon here in Alberta

My guess is the price per gallon will come down as this is an election year (US) however, I don't think we will ever see it less than $1 a gallon. Keeping things in perspective we'll never be able to buy new big block trucks for less than $2,500 either. I just recently started driving my 69 F-100 with a 390 again as I have started work on my 87 F-250 with a 351 H.O. The 390 is getting better mileage. I guess that tells just how bad my 87 needed the rebuild!

Whoops- (blush)- looks like I plussed when I should have minused. Our gas here still works out to 2.50 us per us gallon at most stations, though I bought at a station this morning some for 2.25.

My 1970 CS has no tool box. Most of the CS's I see do have it. I don't even want to talk about my gas mileage.
