Anyone know the specifics on the recall for 04 rangers about the frame rail/crossmember puncturing the fuel tank in a side impact? Something about the rivets not done properly or something? Also, did the 04/05 rangers come with glovebox light harnesses?
That is an old recall that came out in 2004. It was for standard cab trucks only and only a couple of thousand were affected in the recall. The recall came out when I was still selling Fords at a large dealership in 2004. So if you have a super cab you have no worries and at that late of a build date you wouldnt have anything to worry about on that anyway.
Phew...that's good to know. The delivery date to the dealer was 9-20-04. I guess it may be an '05' then... Dealer can't seem to find C254 or any pigtail...hmmm thanks!
I see the dillema you are going through with the pigtail. I found my old notes showing WPT-314 for an 01-04 Explorer and yes, it shows that it's a two wire male connector. The male part is def correct. I have in hand the light assy and pigtail I removed from an 01 Ranger with 20K on the clock. Single wire, male. WPT-314 shows that it's also for a 94 Explorer. I used to own a 94 Ranger, same dash as Explorer, and I can say for sure that the light assy is not the same as on a 95+; 95+ the switch, lamp socket, and striker are all one unit. 94 is a seperate lamp unit, independant of the striker. No direct grounding so two wires makes sense on a 94. At this point, I'm not sure what to say other than maybe junkyard it. I know, it sucks contaminating new/nearly new rides with used stuff, but on this one I see no harm regarding reliability or longevity. Reach in there, pull a bit, snip way back. Viola, 8" pigtail complete . And the best part, only you will know it's "used".
BTW, if you're interested in adding map lights, rear cargo light, underhood light, making the fog lights work on high beams, probably an underhood light, and maybe modify the wiring to keep the low beams on with the highs (risk of burning out lamps DT overheating, not sure yet) all with factory components and clean, sanitary, professional appearing adult workmanship and quality, stay tuned or hollar. And these ain't the only mods to the rig that are on my mind either.

WOW...right there is about the list i am looking at to add to my Ranger too! IF it isn't too much trouble, anything you find out might help other's too...thanks again!! P.S. where all can i find the pigtail wiring kit thing on the Motorcraft website? Dealer had no clue...
All I know about is the site I gave you. Other than that, and I deeply regert saying it in some ways, but junkyard stuff. But depending on the item it's not all bad I guess. Do like I did and find the jewel of a gem that hardly got driven and got plastered in an accident.
*As of tonight I no longer have the auto tranny shift interlock that requires you to have your foot (firmly) on the brake in order to shift into gear. Just like it used to be, back in the good ole days. As should be .

Looks like a few pizza and napa delivery drivers got a new ride .

Just curious...why would you want to do that? here's a helpful guide i found on the site you listed... http://www.motorcraft.com/pdf/Wiring...tion_Guide.pdf
It's in the firmly comment. When I was a kid, and back when the USA was a normal country, a functional human brain was required between the ears of drivers. That's not quite the case anymore. Let some crappy kid whose mom and unidentified father stuff that tranny into gear while the car runs. I must stop here.
*I've lived very well for decades without this sometimes annoying "feature" and as such the occasional annoyance made it worth removing. Bye Bye connector C2008.

Ebay . I like using comprehensive documents that don't lack details or tell me that an operation is "beyond the scope of this text and is best handled at a dealer service department", which is what haynes (a company that makes underwear and lousy repair guides) has done to me. I can decide that for myself, not some author. Also, I cannot tolerate manuals that omit steps required to get a job done (haynes). I'll stop for now, other than to say haynes and sometimes chiltons are to service manuals what a rattle is to a baby. I often think that if these books wern't placed on the shelves of popular auto supply houses but were instead a mail order item, they would cease to exist, thus saving consumers from the agony of sometimes poorly documented repair operations.
Looks valid to me, but if you want piece of mind contact the seller with your expectations and thus a documented confirmation in return. Please PM me if I can be of further help.
