Recall?

Anyone know the specifics on the recall for 04 rangers about the frame rail/crossmember puncturing the fuel tank in a side impact? Something about the rivets not done properly or something? Also, did the 04/05 rangers come with glovebox light harnesses?

I have the light but it had a funky plug....think the dealer could wire it up for me? At least it would come with a warranty that way....thanks!

I have the full set of schematics for the 2004 Ranger from Ford; unfortunately they don't have the pigtail ready and waiting for the glove box light . I plan on adding this item and more to my FX4 Level 2; the ideal point to tie in the glovebox light will be at splice S220 or pin #5 on C2280b, both are near/at the SJB. Should these prove to be a pain to access, the power point would be a convenient alternative.

ah. um what is the SJB? Side doorjamb? My problem is that the light requires a special connector for power....can't seem to find that at this point....Anyone know when they stopped putting in GB lights?

SJB = Smart Junction Box, the replacement for the former GEM. The SJB is in the kick panel on the passenger side, accessable via the pull and remove door. I'm confused by your asking about a special connector; if you're looking for one waiting and ready to plug into the OEM glove box light used on 1995 - 2003 models you won't find it. As I noted earlier, you will have to splice in somewhere. I also have the schematics for the 2003 Ranger, the same ones on the CD that Ford service departments use. This appears, unless there is a goof on Fords behalf, to be the last year. Also, I wouldn't expect stripper Rangers to have this feature.

I just am trying now to locate the darnded little conector that plugs into the light. I realize it won't come with wire behind it. Maybe an auto store would have it? You know, like how they have 'bullet connectors' etc?? Maybe a specialty?? What cd are you using? Just AllData or the actual cd off ebay?

I'm using the same CD that a Ford service department would use. For an 03 Ranger or an 04 Explorer, you need connector C254, female. A Ford dealer might offer a pigtail with this connector. You might also have look here: http://www.motorcraft.com/products.do?item=23

WPT-314 is all i can find pertaining to the glove box lamp but that one has 2 male leads, not female. Are there any other pigtails, perhaps under a different heading? What is special about S220?

Splice S220 is on a timed circuit (attached to the battery saver relay); voltage is dropped after about 20 minutes or so, just like it is on the dome light and the map lights (if you're lucky and have those). It might be a PITB to access, thus the power point which is about a foot away from the glovebox might be a convenient point.

Ah. Makes sense. I have the dome light, but no maps, unfortunately. The whole harness seems easy to get to though. I'll call the dealer and see if they sell the pigtail...thanks for all the help!
