I was hauling a load for work today and was heading south on a state highway when a snow plow, going the opposite direction, passed me. He was pulling a trailer with a water tank and water was misting out the back onto the highway. The wind blew quite a bit onto the company pickup. As I continued on, I noticed that the pavement wasn't drying out. Instead, it had a glaze on it. I dropped my load and headed back. Again, I passed the snow plow, and this time he was misting something onto the other lane. Both lanes were completely glazed from end to end. When I stopped to fill fuel, I noticed that where the "water" had contacted the truck it left a film that dirt stuck to. It was almost a grime. So, my question is, what the heck was being applied to the highway? What could it be if a snow plow was being used to apply it? The temp was around 40 deg. F today with high winds.
Was probably spraying sodium chloride deicer. they are expecting freezing rain or snow in your area sunday morning. This is to help keep the highway liquid and not ice up. Good stuff but will make a mess of your vehicle and excellent for rusting your vehicle.
I'm not sure what IT is, but we always called it salt spray back home. I haven't seen it in Michigan, to much snow I guess. Mainly its to keep ice from forming on the highways, doesn't do to much for snow I guess. But it is some time of salty like solution, and will leave a film on your truck.
Yeah, they do that out here. Not as bad for rust as regular salt, but that stuff can be pretty slick by itself. I put my Subaru sideways getting on the highway when they spray that stuff.
I never notice the grime from it, since I haven't washed the car since I bought it.

I sure do- One pass on a road coated with that stuff and your vehicle is a mess. If it's a big pickup, it's a really big mess.
