Its not like it was something major(motor, tranny,etc.). Although the pedal screwing up could cause a wreck. As far as Honda goes, I believe their small engines, motor technology, atvs and bikes, etc., are superior to any other machines. I've seen what they are capable of and how much abuse they can take. Odd thing is I would not be caught dead in their vehicles, yet I don't think twice about buying anything else they make.
I would tend to agree, short of loosing steering or loosing brakes, a sticking throttle is BAD - it takes away the 1 thing which might be able to save a vehicle from entering an accident - the driver...
I think the point is........ANY company and ALL do have problems.
I agree Tim and before we get mad that a Honda recall didn't bust down the media's door we should remember that there has been countless recalls in the past, import and domestic, that have slipped right past too. Atleast they did recall it, I've seen some real shaddy stuff that just has "updates" in a couple of my past vehicles.
I think the point is........ANY company and ALL do have problems.
Very well put Tim.
I must say though, it all depends on the extent of the throttle "sticking." Mom has an Escape that has the same problem. You have to stick your foot BEHIND the pedal and bring it back towards you. I haven't heard a recall on that yet. At least Honda is taking care of the situation.
Even if it does stick, It only takes a quick second to put er in nuetral and hit the brakes. Most people I guess wouldn't think that quick.

I want you to jump into a vehicle with a stuck throttle, and drive around for as long as you can....not a major problem? What the hell are you smoking?

Ya it's just murder to turn the key off to kill the engine, LOL.
And this doesn't make the 6:00 news because....? Oh right, it's Honda, not Ford or GM.
Everyone has defects, always have. The "domestics" today have a better repair record than the "Asians' of the mid-90s, but that is lost on most people. People bought the Asians in the mid-90s because of the belief that they would never break. But if the domestics of today are as good or better than the Asians of the 90s, why does everyone believe that the current domestics are poorly made?
No one makes really bad cars anymore. Just one look at the engineering marvels of the 60s will help you understand.
There are few cars today that I would avoid because of frequent repair issues. But perceptions become realities.
BTW - When has unbiased reporting become the standard? I have always understood that when there is no news to report, the media make something news.
Sunny and mild - Boring. Maybe a big storm coming - Now that's news.

You expect the average, frantic person to do this? Perhaps we would, but a majority would not. That aside, even if you did you would loose power steering which wouldn't even matter because the steering column would lock. Imagine that on the highway.
If this had been a Ford problem, the media would've been ramming it down the American publics throat, especially Chicken Noodle Network

I agree. If you can't think fast enough to turn the key off then you probably shouldn't be on the road. I deal with it all the time in Mom's Escape. What did I do the first time it stuck? I shut the key off, and left it in gear SO that the engine was still turning over and I had power steering. Even if the tranny is an auto and you're crankin a long, turnin the key off doesn't stop the engine folks, as long as it's still in drive. And by the way, if you didn't catch that, the car has to be in park to be able to lock the wheel.
Even if thats the case, just because you lose power steering doesn't mean you can't turn the damn wheel. That just shows that America has once again shown it's sign of laziness. What ever happened to the days of no power steering and no power brakes?
But I must say, now that I think about it, this conversation is pretty useless. It's not like we can control the media. If we could, we would see happy pictures in Iraq, and not just the scenes we see now. Some things just can't be changed.

I could see it, only if it were possible!. Unless the moronic driver slammed it in park while moving at about 50 clicks, and then turned the key back to lock the wheel.
