Is it worth ordering from "well known electronic retailer" to get the free speaker harness for the Ford's, or would I be better off saving over 20 bucks by getting brand new speakers off of ebay. The harness sure makes it look easier, but if I'm better off soldering the connections myself, than it seems like a waste of hard earned taxable income to order from the famous store. Thanks.
I snipped and soldered. Put the ends away in a box with the factory HU and speakers. Do the battery pop test to find out the + and - of your wires though. I tape a wire to each end of a AA or AAA battery and touch the other end of the wires to the two speaker terminals, when the speaker pops out, instead of in, the terminal touching the + of the battery is the + of the speaker, make note of which one it is so when you cut the connector off you remember which one it is. or a wiring diagram works too.

You can also remove the connector from your OEM speakers, and attach it to the new speakers. By doing this, you will know the new speakers will be phased correctly. Check out these pictures:
I started out on my Ranger using the factory harness when I installed my Infinities and Eclipse HU, after a while I began to tell the bass was muddy and the high end was too, so I ran Monster cable (the twisted pair kind, 16 gauge) and MAN what a difference that made right away! it made such a huge and very noticable difference. my word on factory wiring is skip it and get good speaker wire. its worth the time it takes to run the wires big time.
I bought the speakers half price on ebay and bought Crutchfield's harness at $13 a pair so I can always plug in the Ford speakers if I want to sell the Excursion. Were these harness worth that price? No, but the time saving and convenience was.
i think I may just solder them in and hold onto the wiring harness as Furball said. Great advice guys, thanks. I have an Alpine HU and Polkdb570's coming tomorrow. Will get my Infinity Kappa's for the front next week. Problem is I travel alot, may not get to the install until next weekend.
Side note, I'll be out to KC in 2 weeks on business, at a hospital near the country club section. How far are you Kansas Chapter guys from that area?
