Hey`
Just installed a new Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold with a Carter AFB Comp. Series 4-barrel carb. I am having some trouble though. I bought this carb and intake as a package, from a friend and without any insturctions/manuals. The linkage I have right now is for a 2- barrel stock Ford carb and I dont know, there are some vacuum hoses, and heater hoses that dont exactly line up with the stock intake/carb settup versus the new intake/carb.....does anyone have experience with this install? Or one similiar? PLEASE HELP! The truck is not going anywhere till I figure this out...thanks to anyone who can help.

Its me again- I really need some help guys! I have checked out all of my online resources, and produced nothing. I cant find a Carter website, but I found out they are similiar to Holley? I am getting very frustrated and I am about to tow the beast up to my local shop ( a 69` F-250 towed by a 71` Bronco, what a lovely sight) and tell them to have a go at it but I would rather do it myself for simple experience and I dont like to admit defeat. My brother suggested making a run to my fav. auto shop and asking a guy I know there about linkage kits, adapters and all that. Someone out there in this vast FORD place must know something! PLEASE HELP!

Well I have delt with holley swaps and I know that if thare is a larger vaccume nosel on the back of the carb it is for the brakes, the vaccume for the distributer has to go on the front of the carb from my experence the rest all you have to do is cut all of your other hoses to reach any other port on the carb or manifold and you will be set, if you have any extra ports put a cap on them if you dont have a cap take a short peace of hose with a screw on it and ceal it. Now for the linkage all you should have to do is hook up the throtle wich should be adjustable and the kick down (if you have an auto) lever that you might have to bend a little but be careful not to kink it that should be all you need to do. If you have any other problens keep posting them I will try to keep up.
Thank you for that post. I think I now know at least what one more of the ports goes to- the distributor. The throttle should be fairly simple though? I am unbolting the hardware from the old manifold and I am going to try to assemble it onto the new manifold and carb. Let me see if I can kind of explain this Carter carb. There are four (4) ports. A large one in the center, on the front. On each side of this large one is a small one. Then on the left side, towards the back top is another large one. I think the small one on the front goes to fuel, and the other small one to the distributor. Any ideas on the other large ones?
Thanks, and Merry Christmas.....or Hannukah, or Kwanza...
Well how big is the other port, if it is the same as the other one you put the brake up to I dont know but if it is in the middle it could be for the winshield washer or maybe for a cruse control. If you don't have any thing up to just plug it off and run the truck.
1. Small port Distributer
2. Small trans
3. Small cruse
4. Small winshield
5. Big port brales
6. Big heater?
7. if it looks diferent than others it is for fuel
8. if you have extra plug them
Thanks guys for the help. I got it all on there, everything is connnecting and working great. I took her out on the town last night- opened her up on several straight aways- wow, does she ever scream! I burned up about 1/2 tank of 92 octane, but still....it was well worth it. Thanks for all the help again- I'll post some pictures soon.
