Fuel Tank Sending Unit

Found this post while working on my 72 f 250 gas tank under the bed my sending unit is corroded with black crap and I have surface rust in the tank I flushed it with a hose to get all the flakes out. Does any one think this is okay to re use or will it go to **** on me???
