Fuel gauge was not going up to full mark so i removed the tank to replace the sending unit. Tank was pretty rusty , gummy inside so i bought a new tank. Installed a new sending unit in new tank and cleaned up the area the ground wire fastens to and replaced fill hose at the same time , so all is new. Put 10 gallons of gas in and it stayed below empty. I can ground the wire that goes to the sending unit and the fuel gauge does go towards full. Where would the problem be , faulty new sending unit ? I just now ran the truck until all fuel was gone and getting ready to drop the tank again. Any suggestions other than using the warranty and getting another sending unit ? JIM
Pull the sender and Ohm it out... wiping the arm should indicate whether it sends a signal or not.
Of the float popped off the arm and is bobbing around the tank.
I lost my ohm meter moving around so often , may have to buy another one. Looks like i will have to drop the tank as soon as i get over this cold , flu or what ever i caught . Thanks for the help.
Disconnec tthe wire that goes to the fuel sending unit at the tank. Ground that wire to the frame, making sure the frame is clean. Turn the ignition to the "run" position and watch the fuel gauge. If the gauge swings all the way to full, either the sending unit itself is bad or it has a bad ground. If the gauge stays on empty then either the gauge is bad or there is a wiring problem.

That's what i did , bad ground . I had cleaned the frame with sandpaper but that was not enough, took the grinder to it and got a good shinny ground. I did drop the tank and pulled the sending unit out and the sock had come off of it . It fit real loose so i put a hose clamp on it good and tight. I don't know if it had a clamp on it to start with or not. Anyhow i put 2 gallons of gas in it and it moved up to empty so i will find out tomorrow when i fill the tank. Thanks . JIM
not the flu.but something goin around ...I was told 5 days to run its course...hope your on day 4.5
10 days and getting better. 2 hour flight from Denver to Boise sitting next to a slob that would not even try to cover her coughing which was constant. I even placed my jacket over my head thinking she would get the hint. One reason i hate to fly.
