I bought a tow hitch for my 79 crew cab that the book called for . When i got home it would not fit. The people where i bought it could not help me so i got the company's phone number and called the person i talked to knew what the measurement across the frame was and what hitch i needed ( chevy) . He said crew cabs are cab&chassis frames . So if i want to make it a 4x4 i should look for a cab& chassis frame? any one out there know anything about this?
This is a cool accessory to add to any truck. We have a new patented product called the Hitch Safe Key Vault that fits into most 2 inch receiver hitches. This allows you to store a spare key inside the receiver hitch that can only be accessed using your own personal 4 digit code. You will never be locked out of your truck again. We have complete videos on our web site showing how it works and how to set the combination. We currently have a promotion on our site giving one away for free. All you need to do is visit our site and register to be qualified for the give away.
NLO- curious what your post has to do with the problem as related. He's posting about a hitch not fitting unless i missed something.
Won't the company you bought the hitch from take it back, this is a definite safety issue if you attempt to modify the hitch you bought,i'd double check the info you are giving them.

Is this really necessary? this post has nothing at all to do with that product? I wonder if it is like an auto reply that is posted anytime the word "Hitch" is used. I for one don't like it.
ok, well as for the real question will the hitch match up for bolt holes as well? I'm not sure a chevy will bolt up to a ford, even if the width is the same.
The frame width for your 79 is that of a "lowboy" or that of a post 77.5 truck. This means that although your parts bin is a little smaller (77.5-79) you can get what you want. The tricky thing is to watch out for those that lump 73-79 for all stuff. The 79 has the wider frame that you found out about the hard way. For 4wd you are going to have a different setup than the 73-77.5 guys. Do a search on "highboy" and you should get the info you need.

NO this is not automatic,(we DO NOT HAVE THOSE) new sponsor, just learning the rules
Thanks for giving me the heads up. I for one think that it looks like a great product and would consider purchasing one but I had seen these somewhat "out of place posts" by the vendor.
Thanks for you and the staff working hard to get the site sponsors. It keeps the end user costs down and my cobweb covered wallet appreciates that.
amish 77 the frame width on my 79 crew is smaller than the hitch they sold me (34 in.) took it back going to do some checking around Thanks for the info
yeah I found the frame width thing out the hard way myself. I had to replace the bumper and the mounting brackets were different. Cost me an extra trip to the junkyards.
I found the same problem with the narrower frame on my 78 Crew cab. I have not taken the hitch back, but I was told I could retune it. To be precise, I measured the width needed to to be 30.5 inches between mounting holes. This is the distance between the centers of the frame rails. As far as the Chevy specs go, the Reese one-size-fits-all part number is 37069. It has instructions for installation on a Chevy, but I could not get that configuration to work either. I tried all possible configurations, and none came out to 30.5 inches. Don't know what I will do now. A custom install is about $250, and the kit I bought is only $110.
check out LMC trucks, and go with your specific year. The one they give should fit. You can also price shop with NPD, or Blue oval truck parts. Calling in the order will take extra time, but they may be able to tell you which frame it's gonna fit for sure.
I went down to the local trailer and hitch dealer, told them what I had,and they had the baby in stock. Only cost me 125.00 and I had to drill 6 holes, not to hard with a good bit. Just make sure you get it centered per the instructions. The hitch was made by draw tite.

Yes, you have a standard F-350 frame. Pick up or cab-chassis is irrelivent. Both the F-350 style side pick-ups, and the cab-chassis used the same frame, just different configurations for the different wheel bases. A bumper, or hitch, will interchange. Many companies offer receivers for the trucks. Some bolt together ones will fit both 100-250 and 350 frames, depending on whether you bolt the mounting flanges in or out.
