Trailer hitch

I recently got a Class 3 hitch that's only good for 8k gross trailer weight and was told by the place that put it in they don't make class 4 hitches for our trucks due to the year. I find that hard to believe.
The truck has the air bags on it in the front and rear so part of the hitch had to be modified.
It's on there by four bolts and then welded to the air bag frame as well.
Is 8k a sufficent enough of a hitch to tow with what our trucks are capable of without breaking anything?

That might be the legal rules for a F250. My F350 receiver hitch is rated for 10K...but I always thought that was just a suggestion
It's pulled more than 27K on it but only with 6-700 lbs of tongue weight. I just watch the amount of sag on the rear of the truck, your airbags will hide that.
My 5th wheel, on the same truck, is rated at 22K. I pulled a 48 foot, 5 car (small ones) hauler with it. It pulled and stopped decent but turning was little scary. It wanted to push my truck sideways on wet roads ...definitely needed a dually.

I've got a class 5 made by Reese on my '95 F350.

Part number 45002, 13K GTW / 1300 TW & 17K GTW / 1700TW with weight distributing hitch.

Yeah I thought it was a bit odd to have a smaller hitch rating than what's on my F-150 that has a 4.2V6 with a 8700lb GTW hitch on it.

Thanks for the feedback

I thought they were out of their minds when I went to e-trailer and found quite a few different hitches class IV and V for our trucks.
