I have a 1996 E350 351 v8 that occasionally stalls after I let go of the key-from
start to the run position. Sometimes this happens 5 or 6 times before it will run. The vehicle runs fine after it catches and there are no trouble lights on. I have replaced: coil, coil wires {all of them}, distributer cap and rotor and plugs and plug wires, ignition switch and ignition key lock cylinder. It still will not start properly on the first or successive tries- usually when its cold. Anyone been there done that? Thanks
I've had trouble with the accessories or even ignition going out if you jiggle the key wrong. I heard the prob is that there's a rod going from the lock cylinder to the actual electrical switch and if it wears then a key position is not completely guaranteed to activate the appropriate contacts. It is also supposed to be a difficult part to find for replacement. I haven't bothered to take it apart.
its located on the steering colum on top of it,you may have to drop the sterring wheel down to get at it and replace it,have a great nite hope this has helped.
