Filter price$

I always wondered why the oil filters were about 25 bucks, but now I am shocked at the $82 fuel filter kit purchased at my local NAPA store. Two little filters and 2 o-rings. I guess i'm in the wrong kind of work...........

It sure pays to shop around. I needed them (the filters) yesterday, but in the future I will not go to a retail store. Thanks,

Tom

Definently fine a International dealer, fuel filter only $30 and samething.

Do a search and you will fine the part #, or let me know and I'll dig out my invoice with the number.

Just had mine installed this week. 04 F250 c/c 6.0 and still running fine.

Plus, the NAPA/WIX fuel filters are not the same as Racor filters (make them for Int'l and Motorcraft).

So a search for fuel filters and you will find enough information for you to never buy the expensive, inferior fuel filters from NAPA/WIX.

I would like for someone to prove to me that WIX fuel filters meet or exceed the Ford/Racor/Int'l spec for proper fuel filtration and water seperation... due to the white media "aquabloc" media not on the WIX fuel filter (like the RACOR brand's have).

Until proved in writing, I am assuming they are NOT!!

Just bought my Fuel Filters at the local Weaver Auto for the outrageous price of $88(OUCH!!). They carry Purolator filters and they have some type of media block on them, not sure if its the same as the Racor ones. I'll be going online next time I need Filters.

When you looked at the larger of the two filters, did the large one have pleats visable on it, or a thin white smooth media over the outer edge and covering the pleats?

Maybe Purolator is buying from Racor and re-packaging it??? But they can be had (Racor name) from the IH dealer for $30.00/kit!! At the price you spent, you could have bought Motorcraft brand from your local dealer and not even worried.... did you check with your dealer, as mine here in Kansas City is only $70.00/kit!!!!

Yea, the larger filter had the white media around the pleats, the smaller one you can see the pleats. Didn't see a lot of difference between old ones and the purolators, maybe they are just repackaging Racors. But why the Big difference in price?? I also did check with dealer after I installed the filters, they were around $70, but I needed them on Sat PM, and I know the guy who manages the Weaver. Could not wait till Monday.

Well... it at least sounds like you got Racor made ones, or ones that are very close. I am sure you are fine... enjoy.

So are my NAPA/WIX filters without the "aquablock" inferior filters ? Both of mine had open pleats.

You are asking for trouble as International only offers a 6.0 fuel filter that is the equivalent as the Ford FD-4596 which fits the F650-750. International offers a truck that aligns with 650/750, but they don't have a f250-550 offering. The filters ARE different and you are putting your engine at risk!

I am confused by your post... and I am sure othrs will be as well... but here is the answer for fuel filters (I posted several weeks back in a different thread). Int'l sells Racor filters that do indeed fit our trucks.....

The fuel filters for the Ford 6.0L are different than the International 6.0L. Ford buys the blocks from International but uses the International 4.5L motor's fuel filter for the Ford 6.0L motor.

International #: 1847170C92
Cost: $27.79/kit
Contents: (Two Racor Filters - Kit)

The link below is for an International dealer in Michigan and if you scroll down, it is the fuel filter kit for the 4.5L motor. The 6.0L motor for International uses the filter Ford uses on their 7.3L.

http://www.tricotruck.com/
(Click on "deals" and scroll down)

Racor filters use a white media that is called "AquaBloc" and helps seperate water in the HFCM unit. Other "will fit" filters by WIX and others do not have the white media (old stock did, but new stock does not). As well, at $27.79/kit, why use anything else)? Get OEM (RACOR) quality at a great price. Even Oilguard.com sells for more money... and my local dealer wants over $70.00/kit - what a waste!!!

Here is a link for the explanation of the "AquaBloc" media...

http://www.southeastpowersystems.com...0Oil%20Filters

Filters without the white media "Aqua Bloc" will allow water to possibly be sucked up into the paper pleats of the filter and possibly into your motor and injectors. As well, RACOR or Motorcraft fuel filters fit all model years of trucks (2003 - 2006) just fine, where as WIX has a filter number for 2003-2004 and a new one for 2005-2006... which concerns me and others.

I bought a new fuel filter at my local IH dealer and have confirmed all the above info. Did not check on oil filter as I buy Motorcraft at my local parts store for $19.99/each... and I just buy one at a time as needed (every 5,000 miles).

Conclusion... why use WIX and worry if they fit, whether they will seperate out the water due to the lack of AuqaBlock and why pay more?

Hope this answers your questions and helps everyone in this forum looking for quality filters at a great price.

Jeff

That is not correct. International only sells the 6.0L fuel filter that they have an engine for. Below is from an International engineer.

The 6.0L engine option for the F650/750 is the same engine that International uses (called the VT365). Whatever is common between the VT365 and the F650/750 6.0L Power Stroke can be purchased at either a Ford or International dealership. You cannot purchase 6.0L fuel filters for an E-Series, F250-550, or Excursion from an International dealer because these filters are not offered on an International vehicle.

What you are buying at an International dealer is the same as Motorcraft's FD-4596 -- not FD-4604 that goes on the light duty applications. They are different filters!

You need to be asking the International dealer for the fuel filter kit for the VT275. The fuel filter setup that ford uses on their 6.0 is the same setup that International uses on their 4.5 (VT275) and not International's 6.0 (VT365)

Boy, with both of us giving him info and part numbers... I hope he now understands? Maybe you or I can buy it for him, send it to him and install it for him... then maybe he will understand?

Thanks,
