Im looking to buy a new 06 FX4 Level II Ranger. It has the 31" Tires, and is of coarse loaded. What is the average mpg I can expect with this truck? If its not much better than Im getting now with what I have now (dont worry its a Ford) Im sticking with my 03 truck.
I have an 04 ranger xlt, super cad,4x4,4.0,5-speed, and 410 gears, I get 18 to 19 city, and 21 to 22 highway. Ranger mpg seems to be all over the charts, depending on who you talk to. I get better than the window sticker said, I think the manual trans helps in my case, and moble 1. With a level 2. the coolness factor is worth alittle mpg hee hee.
I love my 350 first of all. It gets 13 mpg all the time except towing or in 4wd. The reason for the new Ranger is one yes the gas, two my wife hates the big truck, three it does ride like a dump truck, and four it will need tires, front brakes and I think something is wrong with the front end maybe ball joints. Im gettin a little old and this thing takes all I got to work on it. Plus these are not cheap to fix either. I have not had to put a dime in this truck yet at 45,000 It looks mint and they will give me a good trade. The 06 Ranger is sweet too. Its white, FX4 Level II, automatic, A/C, leather sets, upgraded 6 disc radio, trailer hitch, bed liner, 31" BFG tires plus is a super cab, I have to sleep on it!
I have an '04 FXII and I get about 17-18 mpg back & forth to work. Haven't had it on any long trips to see what the highway mileage is. Your mileage will mostly depend on how well you control your right foot...
I've got an 04 FX4 Level 2 with 15K on the clock. I get about 17.5 in a mix of 20%city/80% country roads. I'm a bit bummed; I'm used to beating the window sticker. BTW, when you get the new one don't expect optimal gas mileage until you have roughly 5,000 miles on the clock. There is something magical about that number I've found .
not to hi-jack the post, but do u think a an Fx4 lvl II/4x4 SC could pull up to around 4500 lbs safely? This being an 04 or later..im looking into an 06' Ranger
thanks

P.S. take some pics of your new truck!

I have a 2004 FX4 Level II loaded with everything but the Pioneer sound system and it has a manual tranny. I have a fairly heavy foot and I get about 14 mpg with a 50/50 mix of city and highway but my whole daily trip is only about 12-14 miles. Not as good as I had hoped and I kick myself for trading in my F350. I had a 97 F350 4x4 standard cab 5 speed powerstroke with 4.10 gears and it got about 17 mpg city and I could squeeze 22 mpg out of it on the highway. Towing 8,000 lbs on the highway I still got 18 mpg. Best out of the Ranger driving 60-65 mph babying it was 19.6 mpg. Should have kept my big truck!!! I've got just under 28K on the odo now with the Ranger and had 130K on the F350 when I traded it.
Well its too early to tell for me as I only have 230 miles on it yet, but that sounds a little low especially with a stick. I have the automatic and will be happy with 17mpg right now. Your mileage on the powerstoke was alot better than my gas F350.
