Strange wire

Morning, all!

I have an '86 F-250 6.9 that I recently purchased. The truck has suffered partially out of neglect and partially out of the PO installing aftermarket accessories.

I was up under the dash last night pulling out the CB harness that was left hooked up. What a mess! Anyway, while I was pulling, I was checking out the condition of the wires, looking for bare or crimped ones. I noticed one that looked out of place. Right up next to the fuse box, near the kick panel, there are a pair of bright red wires with light blue stripes on them that go into a plug (2 connector). On plug that connects to the first plug is a wire with the same color markings that loops back and completes a circuit between the two wires. (I know this might sound confusing. I wish I had a digital camera...).

The wire that loops appears to have gotten very hot at some point. I pulled the connector apart to inspect it. The plug and the connections appear to be factory, not aftermarket. When I tried to start the truck with the connector apart, I got lights but no action from the starter.

I tried to trace it, but it goes into a big bundle right up under the dash.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for my year truck with the color codes so I can firgure this mystery out?

Thanks.

On my wiring diagram from a Haynes manual, the clutch lockout switch has red/lt. blue. Is it a manual? If so the switch is bypassed.

Neutral saftety switch then. Power comes from the ignition switch pin ST, then goes to the stater relay on the fender. If it starts in a gear other then park or neutral, it got bypassed. There are the ignition switch, NSS, and relay on the diagram. Hope this helps.

That connector would be hooked to the clutch interlock on a manual transmission.
I do believe the interlock for the automatic is on the transmission, but I do not know a lot about the automatic trucks.

On standard trans truck you must press the clutch in to allow start, on auto's there is a jumper...that is what you have found. It must be there, the C6 auto will only start in park or nuetral via the trans PNP (park nuetral position) switch.
