YOu might be able to get a new plug at napa or something like that. Ask for a lil longer plug and a copper crush washer for it. You'll still have to be careful with the torque on the drain plug because the threads in the pan are not the best.
I find the fiber or copper gaskets work best. The fiber one's don't last as long but they are good for 2-3 oil chages and they are cheap. I hate the hylon ones. Or...do yourself a favor and get a Fumoto drain valve which will only have to be installed once and then you will never have to remove another oil drain plug again (I have one on all my vehicles).
I use a metal washer that has a rubber washer inside of it. Works excellent
That is actually a GM factory style, not sure where to find them aftermarket, but when I worked at GM dealers, they were available. They do work well. The copper style will work for a while, eventually it will gall up and start leaking again... I flipped mine over when it started leaking, and for now it is ok.Been using it for 2 years now.
I have been using a copper washer for the last 10 years.
The trick with the copper washer is that the copper will harder over time so to soften it again I heat it red hot with my torch and drop it into a bucket of cold water. This softens the copper right up and gives it a good seal without having to overtighten the plug and risk stripping the threads.
