Thumbs up Front Differential Cover

All !
I am looking to replace the front diff. cover on my 04 F-150. I need one that is stronger/more durable than the stock or a replacement chrome one. For some reason my stock cover attracts rocks and is now leaking. Any thoughts?

Do you have a bunch of front end damage from rocks? I dont see how rocks could reak havoc on the front cover, since its tucked up nicely in there. What leads you to believe its caused by rocks?

If it can be messed up, I can do it appparently. There is visible damage, (bent cover at the bottom where it seals), along with a rock damaged crossmember directly behind the front diff. And the diff. leaks as well. This all happened before the Autospring 2.5 leveling kit.?????????????? I'll see if I can get pics and post if I can figure out how to attach pics in a post.

Thumbs up Diff. Cover and Crossmember Pics

I'll post pics of the damage in my gallery, that's easier for me. It don't look all that bad, but why is it leaking? Check it out.

Thats a gamble you take when you go off roading. I once had a rental car, and we took it off roading, and bottomed it out, and it just bent the oil pan slightly and it started leaking around the edge, so the next morning (the day i had tio have it back) I pulled it in the garage, removed the oil pan and bent it back to shape cleaned it all up, and put some silocon around the gasket, and put it all back together and it had no more leaking problems.

I actually think that a skid plate might be a better option.

i had a dodge hemi and took it off roading...a lot of scrathes and bottomed that huge truck out from bumps....let me tell you, yes it was a rental. from what i learnd: 1) never buy rental cars/trucks 2) Dodge is very very durable..I had it for about a month and let me tell you it took some beating. I overloaded the payload by 600lbs..tires looked like they were going to explode. But the suspension took it well and both times (yes, i hauled one full pallete of pavestone and 5 workers) it went back to its normal ride. If it looked half way decent as a Ford interior/exterior wise, I would trade it in in a heart beat.

Doesn't look all that good either! It's leaking because it's bent and won't seal anymore. Looks to me like you use your 4X4 as a 4X4 and from time to time they are going to get dinged. You could just drive it around on the highway like probably 80% of 4X4 owners do, but where's the fun in that.

Thanks bigdave !
My thoughts exactly, I just havent had much luck finding a skid plate or tougher front diff. cover. Yes I use it as a 4X4, thats what I bought it for. Some folks here have scoffed at the thought that I actually have scratches down both sides of my truck also. My tires really do go off of the pavement from time to time.

I believe superlift builds a cover for the diff but you will have to replace your original cover then get their protector. if you get any 4x4 rag there are tons of adds in them for what you are looking for. I agree about using your 4x4, I got mine in iowa and had it wheeling in montana in less than 72 hours. not anything tough because it was bone stock but I did gently caress a few branches and hard that loving thud from bottoming out.
