The other day i heard that the New 2005 F 150's rev to 3000 after you first start them. This is done to save the customer on fouled spark plugs. Thats all fine until you consider the fact that if someone tries to start this truck in the early morning when its cold, think about all the excessive wear that you arew putting on the truck.
The factory programs this into the PCM to happen for the first 3 to 6 miles and it only revs. to about 2000 rpm's or so. By the time the consumer buys or test drives a new ford, the car or truck should already have more miles than that put on when the pre delivery inspection is performed by the dealership.
I have an 05 FX4 Screw with 2800 miles on it and it revs to 2000 rpms when started (cold). It usually goes down to 1300 within 3 or 4 seconds but it is annoying.
I've got a 2005 F-150 loaner from the dealer tonight. I got it w\13 miles on it. Now it's got 38 miles on it. There's no tach in it but sure enough, it does rev up for a few seconds each time I've started it.
my o5 fx4 scab starts close to 2000 and then drops to about 1300 but so did my 97..125000 miles on my 97 and a wrench had never been turned on her other than mainence...
It's a rumor. Untrue. Remember the old old old days of manual chokes and throttles on the dash board??? Remember the old old days with manual chokes that you had to set by pushing the gas pedal down??? Remember the old days when you had to set the choke, but then the spring would warm up and release the choke???
Your truck (computer) is simply doing all of this for you in 3-10 seconds. Why? Emission laws, oil priming, smooth idle, less maintainence.
This is actually doing you ALOT of good. Don't worry about it, and have fun with your truck.

I do not actually have a 150 but I was talkin to a tech at kreigers that I know and this is what he told me. He said that he couldnt figure it out at first so he looked it up, and the main reason was to save on fouled plugs.
Yeah, mine revs a little high to start as well (closer to 2000, certainly not 3000). It is a little annoying - better have your foot on the brake when you shift into Drive, or it will start with a jerk.
I have an 05 and mine does not rev anywhere near 3000. 2000 at the most. All you have to do it wait 5 seconds and tap the accelerator before putting in reverse or drive. No problem at all.

Apparantly you were not thinking when you helped spread a bogus rumor, if you're to ignorant to know better this board can't help you.
I own a 2006 SCREW what a piece of junk. My idle problem is not 2-3000 RPM but 1000-1200 at a cold start. It does go to 700-800 but not very often. This causes the truck to lunge in foward or reverse. The shop person told me they have seen a problem with some high idle but Ford does not have a fix for it. This is one of many problems I am having, and I have 2000 miles on it. They are sure fast to sell you a truck and do not mention problems but they do not know how to correct the problem. Does anyone know where i can buy some big lemons I can put on my truck. I want to do some advertisement for Ford like they do with there video of the truth about trucks. This is my forth new Ford truck and I promise I they cannot fix it it will be my last one.
