Was a underhood light and option in 66? also a 66 i am looking to buy has three holes under the taillights. I am guessing maybe reverse lights? it has one big hole and two smaller ones on each side of it. If so can anyone tell me anymore about these? any pictures? are reproductions avalable? how about the switch for them? and wiring dirgams? thanks
The three holes you speak of under the tail lights are optional reverse lights. I have them on my truck, but one of the lenses is broken and both chrome bezels are pretty rusty. I'd be interested in some repro ones as well if anyone has a source. I've got photos of them if you want to see them email me. I can't seem to be able to attach jpegs to my posts on this site.
LMC Truck has the lens and piece that goes around, but it does not say in the catalog if it is chrome. They are available from several different venders, shop around.

Cb, No underhood light from the factory, no backups from the factory.
Sounds like someone has added them and time has caused them to need to be replaced.
Is your truck an automatic or str. drv.?
If there was no optional underhood light does anybody know why my truck has a brass tab that appears to be a grounding tab for the hood? It is attatched underneath the cowl seal to the cowl towards right side. It appears to be a factory part.

I was just talking about the truck i was looking at i can not account for any others and do not have a book that says yes or no. Anyone know??
My truck had ugly, home made looking holes so I bought lights like that and installed them just to cover the holes. You can get those lights cheap (less than $5 a piece) at nut houses like Advance or the Zone. Although some say that they were not factory I thought it was funny that my 65 has what looks like factory switching and wiring. The switch is on the column outside with the gearshift lever. If the holes in the fender didnt look so crappy I would think for sure mine came from the factory. Of course then again the steering coulums may have all been made with provisions for addition of a switch and someone later added my stuff. Probably so...
Again identical lights are available CHEAP folks. I will say mine have started rusting at 1 year old but I have done nothing to prevent it. I can still bring them back like new when I get time.....
CB, Can you find the trigger switch for the backup lights? The auto would have had a netural safety switch in the column that can operate the reverse lights.
When the factory installed backup lights in the 67-72 year range they were in the taillight housing. That setup will fit and can be run in our series trucks.
I wont be home for a couple of weeks( at school) i fi get a chance i will look then. but i think the column was switch out out some point. eather newer or older( can not remember which) .

I have heard this and all it does is makes me mad that some idiot chunked out some ugly, shadetree, holes in my otherwise perfect bedsides and I have to cover them with the cheap aftermaket 2-$5 units. I guess it wouldnt cost a lot to have a body man fill in this grave mistake with metal. I'm starting to think that bodywork is about the smartest hobby one could take up. A lot of people make great $$ doing minor bodywork in their back yard. Plus you can fix your own stuff. I don't want to paint. I would just like to learn to do all the rust repair or whatnot and prepare a vehicle for someones paint booth.
