that rebuild kit from northernautoparts.com what kind of parts does it come with? all stock cam, dish pistons, etc? or would it have a bigger cam and maybe flat top pistons?
ok so i decided to not rebuild but to just add performance...i want to do all the norm cams, whole new exhaust from filter to headers all the way down, and, everything else. sine this is me first time doing domestic except for my explorer where would you start and does anyone have any ideas in general..sorry i know this is a newbie question but im reading and learning....thanks
Clifford Performance & Offenhauser both make 4bbl aluminum intakes.
Check with Crane cams and Comp cams for perf cams.
Headman makes headers for the Ford six.
The later model 300's came with fuel injection and factory dual headers.
Go to a search engine or search these forums and you will find a wealth of information
www.cliffordperformance.net They've got intake/exhaust/other misc. go fast goodies, plus a rebuild kit should you need it in the future.
I put the EFI manifolds on my truck and noticed a pretty huge difference.
The Offenhauser DP intake with a Holley 4160 0-8007 390cfm 4bbl is a popular configuration for the intake side (Offenhauser advertises gains of 50-150 horsepower over stock on their webpage).
Also, headwork is a good idea - port and polish. Check out the rockers from a Chevy six too.
The 300 will really wake up if you can help it out with airflow.
ok i found the the cams i want for my 300 but the headers on the clifford site is for 1980 and up and ive got a 77'. the cams didnt say anything about it but most of the other stuff did and i was wondering if the cams were too?? does anyone know where i might get some headers and a new 4bbl???? thanks in advanced and to everyone else. also so surface rust would you go with 80 grit.. some one told me 800 and that seems like it would take forever!!!
* Headman lists 2 headers for your truck (I assume it's 2wd) a painted version and a ceramic version. Their part numbers fit 1965-1993 6 cly. www.hedman.com
*As far as the cam, call the company's tech line or web site to be sure.
* Summit's catalog lists a 390 cfm and 450 cfm Holley 4bbls. www.summitracing.com
*Concerning the surface rust, the grit you would use, would depend on what the rust is on, and how bad it is.
thanks for the help!!! the rust is over the whole entire body!!! i want to do it quick before it gets worse. i thought about doing the sanding and primering myself but i dont want ther to be any blemish's when it gets painted...buyt i think i will anyways!!oh and mayco sucks my friend went there to get his 76' painted and it sucked!!!!!
If you have a clear area, or understanding neighbors, you could try using a portable sandblaster for the initial rust removal. That'll let you quickly see what metal is really left.
