I just got my subs and amps installed yesterday and the guy at circuit city stated that he did not turn on the bass bosst for the amps yet because the subs need to play for awhile and to come back after about two weeks and then he would turn it on and tune the amps for me? Is this normal? They sound alright but I can't help but wonder what they will sound like once that is complete.
i always break my subs in before i pound them. i would recommend using them but not turning it up all the way. be reasonable because if they dont get properly broke in they can be messed up for life
They definately need break in time. I always break in all of my subs on whatever kind of audio system I have. Computer, home theater, truck. They need to work into their groove to sound thier best. He's right. 2 weeks is about how long it takes, but you may as well ease into it, not just blast them at 2 weeks.
And in my opinion, Bass Boost usually sounds terrible.
And in my opinion, Bass Boost usually sounds terrible
actually, in my experience bass boost usually sounds good IF you use it correctly. i usually turn on bass boost and then turn the amp down and tune it to what i need it to sound like
Using bass boost in my truck makes my truck sound like the inside of one of those ancient 2000 pound, brass bells. Time for some sound deadening, maybe.
All depends on the type of music. When I listen to rap, I turn it down. For rock, I'll turn it up. Bass boost will sound bad if you have the highs on your sub amp turned up. Turning the amp to where it's only low notes will elminate most of the crap. I still haven't found the point where my subs will distort.... I don't have enough power to make them distort.
Yeah, no distortion here, just some wierd cabin gain on some bass guitar notes. I tuned the amps with the HU EQ zeroed so I can add or subtract with the HU... kinda tough to adjust the bass boost (no remote) when I change cd's when the amps are bolted in behind the rear seat. My monoblock only has LP filter, set at 80; no highs allowed.
It's been a week and I love these subs I had bargain basement subs before and I see what I was missing. My next project will be uprgrading my HU to a JVC one that has 3 sets of pre amp outputs, buying a four channel kenwood amp and upgrading the door speakers from my Pioneer 6 X 8' s to something else. Should I go with the Kicker Compnets in the doors?
I agree on the break in period and on the bass boost etc. Even after the break in period I would try not to drive them too hard for another couple of weeks as well.

Too little power can cause distortion just like too much. It might not be quite as much but I have heard it. This is espacially true if you have an amp that is way too small for the speakers being used. If you don't have enough power to make them distort then you may have it setup almost perfectly.
