[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Jan-03 AT 04:22 PM (EST)]Got my vent window gaskets and am trying to install them. The old ones are riveted. The gaskets I got did not come with the rivets. Does any one know what size and type these rivets are and where to purchase them? That way when I go to get them I can sound halfway like I know what I'm talking about! My experience with riveting only goes as far a blind rivets and those will not work in this case due to clearance limitations.

Thanks man. I have that catalog in PDF format but never noticed that particular article. I bought mine from someone that doesn't support this site and they were $25.00 dollars cheaper than DC's so I figure if the rivets are less than $25.00 than I saved a little $$$.

I use the DC set. Fits perfect and do not have to bother with rivets. For the money it is difficult to justify the extra time involved in riveting the seal. I replace the vent window rubber, window wiskers and window roller as well. Do it once, do it right and forget about it. There was discussion a while back about installing these rivets, semed to be a real PITA to me. The DC division bar set is chrome as well. IMHO!

If you don't rivet it how does it hold in place?

All you need is a pop rivet gun and some rivets. The rivet gun will cost you anywhere from 10 to 20 bucks. I found brown/ black headed rivets at one of the Home Depot/ Menards type stores so you can't even tell they have been replaced. It is very easy to drill out the old rivets and put the new ones in. As I recall, the rivets I used were a little long so I had to use the grinder to shorten them after they were installed. I don't think black rvt or weatherstrip adhesive would work.
