Looking for a car

Hi. I am looking for a reliable car that is cheap to insure and won't cost alot to fix if it breaks. This will be my first vehicle so i'm not looking for a high performance car, and I live in the city so I don't know if I need a truck. I don't want a diesel either, because of the fuel and repair costs. I have also heard Ford is recalling the intake on all 4.6L engines. This true?

Top 5 choices:
1995-1997 Lincoln Town Car signature series
1997-2003 F-150 reg. cab XLT
1992-2003 E-150 conversion van
1995-1998 Chevy silverado/GMC Sierra
1998-2006 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis

Ford re-called some of plastic intakes depending upon mileage, yr,etc. I like the crown vics, grand marquis. Check out www.crownvic.net for more info on the cars. On the other hand get a truck super cab with a cap to be able to haul things if needed, plus extra passenger room.

You said you lived in a city, so if its a big one, for your first car, I'd say smaller is better.

I know its a hard finding a place to park my extended cab ranger for work sometimes.

Trucks are nice, so would a lincoln, but for your first car, in a city, not so sure if thats a good idea.

Its not a really big city, only 116 000 people. My school has lots of parking for students, and there is a lot of public parking downtown.

That makes a diffrence.

I'd say buy a truck. It'll take more of a beating if you have any accidents. I'd say a early 80's or late 70's F-150 with a 302. Decent gas mileage, and easy to work on. They usually won't break down though.

Get a truck if you can. After a while, you'll wonder how you ever got along without one, JMHO.

You'll sure as heck make a lot of friends who need to haul things if you get a truck...

Me, I'd look for a 1996 F-150 (don't like the newer body styles as much) with a 5-speed if you want a big truck, a Ranger if you want a small truck, and a Vicky/Marquis if you want a car.

Stay away from 4x4 if you don't live in snow country, or know how to drive in the stuff pretty well. Save on gas and repair costs.

if your looking for cheap to insure a older truck would be better, my first vehicle was my 82 f100 i bought in 2001 for 350 bucks.

insurance [liabillity only] was 40 bucks a month.

for reliability it has the good ol 300 inline 6, bought it with 160,000 miles beat the crap out of it for 5 years now has 227,000 miles and still runs pretty good. speeding tickets were not a problem, anyone with a 1bbl carbed inline 6 can tell you there not know for there speed.

it didnt worry me much leaving my already beatup vehicle in the highschool parking lot, i acualy think people were scared of it.

the truck survived my extreme lack of matinance, my not so bright idea of running over every garbage can on garbage day, and i walked away from 2 differnt wreaks in the truck [both not my fault suprisingly] the truck survived my every attempt to kill it.

if you can learn to master winter driving in a 2wd truck, on bald tires, and with no abs, everyother problem on the road seems not so big.

my advice would be to pick up a old truck, like others said once you've got one you'll never know how you managed without it.

snake 1979 and stu37d i can proudly say "i turned 16 - i saved a few hunderd bucks - my first car it was a pickup truck"

I've narrowed the list down to a regular cab F-150, Crown Victoria or Lincoln Town Car.

Nice list, but I don't know that Lincolns are cheap to fix.

I haven't found anything on my 94 Lincoln that's any more expensive than on other cars (other than my old '71 VW bus), except the airbag rear suspension. Costs on those have coem way down aftermarket, and I replaced mine with $85 coil springs anyway . Can't tell the difference.
