how do i increase my MPGs?
I did try acetone a while ago (had about half gallon leftover) and I didn't get any statistically significant increase in mpg. I think I got an increase of close to 0.1, but since my mpg varies by about +/- 1 mpg depending on how fast I drive, the result was well within nornal variations.
I think the "theory" behind the acetone is that it acts as a surfactant. Whether it works or not, I can't tell you, but I'm leaning towards "No". But in any case, it's cheap and is not an "MLM" additive.
Acetone might have some good and bad side effects -- the good is that it can clean injectors since it's a very good solvent, the bad is that it may dissolve/corrode plastic parts. And if you ever spill it on paint....
I also check my tire pressure often. I remember hearing that 5psi change in tire pressure is roughly 3% change in mileage. Im sure thats a ballpark number, but in my car i'd say its close.
Coast whenever possible, im not saying put it in neutral, just let your foot of the gas. You will also notice your brakes last longer.
