Spitfire Spark Plugs

Hey

My old 92 F150 4.9 seem to miss a little. I changed the Spark plugs out.
The Spitfires had 55,385 miles on them in 5 years.
And the gaps ran from .056 to .068 when the gap was .044 when I put them in.
The No.1 plug had a build up of a white stuff on one side of the plug.
The white stuff was on all the plugs but wasn't as bad on the last plug, just a little .
Has anyone had this kind of stuff on there plugs?
I changed to the Autolites AP5125 Platinum plugs.
Seems to run better, haven't got on the HWY yet, will drive on HWY going to work, and check them out.

white stuff usually just means you're running a little lean. no big whoop. that's excatly how my plugs always looked coming out of my 4.9L, too.

good choice with going with the Autolites. Splitfires tend to be hit-or-miss with most engines, mostly miss.

I second that. I tried the splitfires but returned to my trusty ol' Autolites.

Splitfires are a scam, the spark in only gonna go to one of them thingys(forgive me i cant remember what they are called). Autolites are the only way to go.

All of the vehicles I have owned have been Ford, and I have definitely learned one thing. They all like Motorcraft plugs the best. This was true on the following vehicles. 1965 Mustang 200 6 cyl (soon to be swapped to 302), 1995 F150 5.0, 1995 F150 4.9, 1989 Mustang 2.3, 1985 F150 351 HO. I always just run motorcraft. I have been using the platinum plugs on my current truck for about 5 years and 140K miles only changed them once during that time. It had 85k when I got it, and now has 220k. I am actually about to change them again. Just my 2 cents.

I tried the Splitfire's in my truck a few years back & I agree, total scam. Took them right out. I have also had a bad Champion plug when changing sets on 3 different occasions. I stick with Motorcraft.

Stick with Motorcrafts or Autolites....splitfires are just money down the drain!

I've had nothing but success with the motorcrafts in my F-150 and Aerostar.
