Second fuel filter

I am thinking about adding a second fuel filter. I have seen the Baldwin/Dahl 100 system is there others out there that people would recoend? Is there any issues to puting another one in line with the factory one? What micron filter should I use for the one I am adding?

No issues at all, and in fact, I reccomend it. I have a Dahl 150 and am very happy with it. You can see pics of it in my gallery. A Dalh 100 would be more than sufficient on a stock fuel system. I have plans of upgrading in the future, so I went bigger. You'll need the filter in a pre-pump location. Mine came with a 2 micron filter, but when it comes time to replace it, I'll probably go with a 10 micron.

I have the Motorguard MG-60 (1/4" fittings) and think it's great. A real beefy unit that should handle road debris assaults. I plan on installing a low pressure
high flow electric pump before it to protect my main pump from excess stress.
It uses a roll of toilet paper to filter fuel down to about 1 micron.

I use a Dahl 100, and I bought a case of 2 micron filters for it. I reckon that's a lifetime supply at the rate I'm using them.

On the other hand, I may never have to replace my stock-location Baldwin PF7698, the fuel getting to it is already so clean. OK, well just not as often, then.....

Heating Oil Filtering!

Check this guys results using the Motorguard MG-60 filter on his home heating system....interesting! :
"I purchased the MG-60 from Ralph a while ago for my home heating system that uses #2 heating oil. The fitler actually supplies both the furnace and my hot water heater and it has no problems flowing enough oil to keep both units running fine. Also, the system has a return line so there is actualy alot of oil flowing through the filter in a "loop" type circuit. There was a definite improvement in the sound of the burner and the soot and smoke from the chimmney is gone. When I change the filter it is black and full of small carbon like pieces, also the oil tank is brand new so #2 oil must be very dirty. The old filter was never dirty and the element use to cost me about $9.00, now all I do is replace a roll of TP every few months and I'm good to go. If you have a fuel oil heating system you have to get one of these filters. "

On the Dahl systems, do they use special filters that I would need to purchase from Dahl or Baldwin or is it a normal filter such as Wix or equivalent?

MY $.02: Been hearing all this 2 micron filtration stuff for many years, but am unaware of the PHYSICAL properties of TP as a filter. I Know how teensy 2 microns are, and wonder how this happens since TP has big huge holes between the sheets. Is it brand specific like Charmin, puffs, ANGEL SOFT plus?? Has anybody out there ACTUALLY ran some 2/3/4/5 micron stuff through the filter media (other than the vendor selling the kit) and see what comes out? I had one WAAAAAYY back when the graphite oils came out and they didn't stop the 5 micron graphite so I stopped using it.

The filtering is from one end of the roll to the other end. Cellulose is one of the best filtering mediums out there and when it's comressed into a TP filter it does
some real nice filtering.

I don't know that there is a Wix equivalent, I'm sure there is. But, since you don't have to replace them very often, I'd think that it's worth any additional $$ to have the good quality Baldwin filter in there to know it's working how it's supposed to.

Most marine shops have them, as well as OTR service shops.

Google "Dahl filter" and see what you get.

I ordered a Carter pro series 72GPH @ 6psi pump last week. Should be here thursday. Been burning up stock pumps at the rate of 1 every 18 months since I put the big primary on.

I'll be curious to see how it works out. How much did that pump run you?

A little over $50...I think $69 with shipping. I'm eager to see what it does too.

Guys, let us know if there is any change in sound on your engine. Adding a pre pump is supposed to reduce the release of encapsulated air in the diesel fuel.
