VGT problems
Hey guys, I was just thinking back on a problem with my buddies 05 6.0. We put an 03 turbo in it for the whistle
Anyway we had some serious problems with it. His truck is a manual tranny, and sometimes off the line and for minutes at a time, the turbo basically shut off. There was no boost pressure even with it floored. The exhaust sounded pretty sweet, as all you heard was the motor. But anyway, I was thinking that vanes in the turbo actually closed all the way like a waste gate would. I can't think of any other explaination, this is no valve to close off the turbo. . . so I'm thinking with the vanes closed all the way, the exhaust just runs around then to the down pipe bypassing the turbine wheel. Anyway. . . this happened multiple times. . . we took the turbo out again and had it cleaned up. . . working fine now. What do you all think?

Most likely the vanes are open, as when they are shut the spooly whistly turbo screech will be more audible, as it restricts the exhaust path over the turbine wheel!
