Hello guys and gals,
I have been posting over at the f150 big boy section, never got anytime to spend with all of you!
I have a question about 97 explorer interchange parts.
What year or years are common for the following parts:
1. Instrument cluster clear plastic.
2. Steering column housing/shaft.
3. iginition bezel (black plastic around iginition key part).
4. Right and Left cruize control buttons.
Like for example, could I use the same steering column from a 92 Explorer for my 1997 Explorer?
What year did Ford change up the parts for the explorers? (I would guess starting at 1998 for the new style, correct?)
I apprieciate all your help and answers!
Thanks,
TONY Z.

PS. Only reason I ask is because, I could get these parts at a salvage yard, instead of the dealer. Only thing is, there is not too many 1997's laying around.
Thanks again,
TONY Z.

Not sure exactly what is interchangible within the ranges but 91 - 95 is Generation 1 Explorers, 96 to either 01 ir 02 is Generation 2 Explorers, and 02 or 03 & up are Gen 3. Within a generation may interchange, but probably not from generation 1 to 2, etc. All that being said, almost all salvage yards have access to cross reference sheets that show what parts interchange on what cars/trucks.
