That's right, you need to get the Canbus adapter ($150 or so) and then you could.

$150 is well on the way to getting a aftermarket radio that you could hook your I-pod up too.

Aftermarket Hu Is Completely Out Of The Question. Not For An I-pod.

Aftermarket HU you would get way more advantages then just an i pod hook up though!

This is a common problem with factory HU's and Ipods. Some are touted as MP3 capable, but that's kind of a grey area.
I have been using a Kenwood HU and the Kenwood Ipod connector, which plugs into the L-shaped CD-changer aux port in the back of the HU. It's actually pretty cool because you can control the Ipod from the HU or remote and it shows either the artist, album name or song title on the HU display. I prefer this to the other types of setups because I can stash my Ipod oput of sight so no worries of someone snatching it.

Why do you say an aftermarket HU is out of the question?
Is it just the cost? If so, they are really not all that expensive these days for a decent one. The cost was $129 for the HU and $70 for the adaptor, about $10 for a dash kit and I did the install myself. I have a 20G Ipod, and it's full, so there is no way I would ever carry that many CD's in the truck. And the sound is way better than a standard stock HU.

That's great and all that fuzzy stuff, but you'd still be dumping ~$150 into the Stock HU.

The only reason I have the stock Hu running my system in my truck is because I want to keep the steering wheel controls, and that I may be getting a different truck in 6 months (want to be able to pull out the amp and such on a dealer lot if I have too.). If it were'nt for these two reasons, $150 would buy a pretty decent HU, and might even get it installed too.

I have a 04' Screw, with the Audiophile HU. My question is:
a) if I have an aux connector behind it
b) if I do is it only for "thier" DVD sytem
c) can I hook up somethimh else to it?
d) if so what?

Thanks, I'm a novice to stuff like this....

i got a pie adaptor from discountstereo.com. 85 bucks plus a free cable. cant beat it. still keep that great stock look. very easy to install plugs into the back of the stock h/u. supply power and ground from the 12v outlet. still got those wonderful steering wheel controls and no chincy aftermarket h/u. i guess guys without the audiophile system dont understend.

Thought this was interesting.....I might get it for my "Nano"

TripTunes™
Part Number: 6R3Z-19A464-AA
MSRP: $50.00

Take your tunes on the road! Now you can connect portable audio players (MP3, iPod,® iRiver,® SanDisk,® etc.), plus portable CD and cassette players, right to your in-dash radio. Just plug your player into the harness – a 3.5mm stereo connector provides the interface so you can listen to music through the radio’s speakers and control the volume. Audio connection is housed securely in your vehicle’s glovebox or center console. "Dealer Installation Recommended"

I'd assume (until I do more research) that it was some sort of "In-line" type hook-up that went inbetween the female connector input on the back-side of the radio and the male-side of the connector. So perhaps it may still be a novice-advanced DIYer thing to do in a few mins. to an hr, but again...I'm jus' speculating...

k, in my truck i ran my wire under the console and up the side. but this past week i installed a setup into my mastercraft that was great. a 3.5 mm rca jack that would plug into the pie setup. just mount it wherever you want (glovebox console wherever). has a little cover and everything. looks like a cigarette plug with the cover on it. i think it was like $40. but you would still need the pie adaptor. so now your talkin $120. but it looks great still maintain that stock appearance. i just saw that ford thing the other day so i dunno much about it.
